Garry Findlay will contest a second successive season in the VdeV sportscar series after inking a return to the CD Sport team with which he enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in 2014.

Findlay, a former rising single-seater star now aiming to reach the heights of sports prototype racing, secured two podium finishes in his first year with the French team, and will be reunited with one of his two 2014 co-drivers, Ines Taittinger, when the 2015 season gets underway with the 6 Hours of Barcelona-Catalunya. However, with the third pilot, Kevin Besancon, having been switch to another of the team’s entries, Findlay will become the undisputed lead driver, with a replacement for his French team-mate yet to be confirmed.

“It’s great to confirm that I’ll be back with CD Sport for 2015,” Findlay commented, “Both parties were keen to continue for a second season, so it was only a matter of formalities, and I’m glad we could sort those in time for pre-season testing.

“Losing Kevin breaks up a team that was getting better with every race last season, but could still have its advantages for Ines and myself as we won’t be penalised for having two elite drivers. That means we should be able to qualify higher up the grid and will have to do fewer pit-stops than we were in 2014, which should bode well for the races. I think we can consider ourselves as potential title contenders, even if the field is getting stronger every year.”

Findlay will campaign one of four new Norma chassis acquired by CD Sport over the winter, and will get his first taste of the revised machine during the opening series test session, at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya, early next month. As well as racing in VdeV, however, the Briton is keen to further his sportscar ambitions with an eye to moving up the ladder in the next year.

“I’d like to get seat time in something like an LMP2 during the season,” Findlay confirmed, “It’s obviously a step closer to racing at the Le Mans 24 Hours, and I’d like to do some testing or racing with an eye to moving into the category on a permanent basis in future. I’ve had some positive interest, so we’ll see what happens….”
